January: National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month

Learn With FreshJax The White House issued a Presidential Proclamation making the month of January National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Human trafficking involves the use of force, fraud, or coercion to obtain some type of labor or commercial sex act (1).  This modern day slavery affects women, men, and children globally. It can be present anywhere in the United States, and can affect anyone regardless of their age, race, gender, or background. Sadly, the Human Trafficking industry is a highly profitable crime generating $150 billion a year (2).  This month, we want to bring awareness to this crisis and highlight a Jacksonville organization that is making a difference in the lives of people everywhere.
