This tender pulled pork is slow-cooked with FreshJax Hog Rub for a deep, sweet, and smoky flavor that permeates every shred. It’s the ultimate "set it and forget it" meal, perfect for piling onto brioche buns, topping street tacos, or prepping high-protein meals for the week.
Good to know: For the best results, use a pork shoulder (butt). The high fat content breaks down beautifully over 8 hours, ensuring the meat stays juicy even after reheating.
Ingredients
Main Dish
-
3–4 lb pork shoulder
-
8 tbsp FreshJax Hog Rub
-
1 cup BBQ sauce
-
½ cup broth or water
BBQ Sauce
-
1 cup ketchup
-
½ cup apple cider vinegar
-
¼ cup brown sugar
-
2–3 tbsp your FreshJax Hog Rub
-
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1 tbsp yellow mustard (or 1 tsp dry mustard)
-
1 tbsp honey or molasses (optional for sweetness & body)
-
Optional heat: hot sauce, cayenne, or crushed red pepper
Directions
Main Dish
Rub pork shoulder with Hog Rub on all sides.
Place into a slow cooker and pour broth around it.
Cook for 8 hours.
Shred pork, then mix in BBQ sauce.
Serve warm.
BBQ Sauce
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan.
Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Reduce heat and cook for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Taste and adjust:
Want sweeter? Add brown sugar or honey.
Want tangier? Add a splash of vinegar.
Want more spice? Add more rub.
Cool slightly before serving. Sauce will thicken as it cools.
